    Talked to ds's teacher

today about ds being bored in class. I really feel for him. He's such a smart kids and alerady knows so much. He usually just has to be "taught" something one time and then masters whatever it is. Fortuntally (sp? ) for me his teacher has a child just like ds. He did say that they are finally getting into a routine and he will try to give ds more challenging things to do in class. The class is already split up for reading groups and he said that now the kids are working at their own pace on a computer based Accelerated math program. He said that too should help ds.
I don't know what I can do for ds to help with this boredom. As a parent and for those of you who are teachers do you have any advice???

I had a child last year at the beginning of the year that was super smart and bored too. It did take me some time to get into a routine, so that I could begin giving him more challenging work, so do give the teacher a little time, but if he/she doesn't seem to be keeping up with what they said, go back.

We have the accelerated math program at our school as well, and that did help. We also let him help others with that program. That was strictly voluntary. We didn't want him to feel as if he had to be the teacher.

Some things you could do at home are encourage your ds to take his reading story one step further. He could create a mobile, diorama, etc... of the story they are reading including characters, settings, main ideas, problems, solutions, etc.... and with the teacher's permission he could share these with his classmates. This of course would only be if he wasn't very shy. When he finishes his work in class, he could be thinking about these ideas, and brainstorming about what he would like to do. Better yet, maybe his teacher could set up a corner in the room where he could go to work on it there.

I don't know if this helps or not. I am very tired right now. If I think of anything else I will let you know.
