What are you doing with your kids during vacation?

I am already dreading vacation! We aren't going away until Jan. 9th and that leaves all of vacation for my kids to be bored to death. I already have lemony snickets on the agenda and I have been threatening to drop the kids off at grandparents house for the whole day, but other than that-nothing!

How do you pass the time when the kids?

Don't have to worry too much about that anymore since ds is pretty much in charge of his own social life now. I do plan on seeing a movie or two (definitely Spanglish and Meet the Fockers). We'll also likely go to Toronto ice skating.

Don't entertain mine either! LOL DS and his friends have become addicted to Texas Hold 'em poker, so they are playing it all the time. Between that, driver's ed, golf and sleeping till 1 his days are pretty full.
DD is pretty good about thinking things up to do. She usually invites a friend over or roams the neighborhood if she is bored. She went out to lunch with her godmother yesterday and she bought dd a polly pocket knock off thing that dd played with from 3-10pm!!!
We also have a two parties this week where the whole family is invited. Company Christmas eve, Christmas day, then off to the inlaws Mon-Wed, then a whole family New Year's eve party and then dh's birthday party New Year's day so no time for them to be bored.

They had friends come over a couple of days and ds2 went to his friends. They play out in the yard on the slide or in the snow. Dh took turns taking the older ones to work. Over Christmas we have a lot of family stuff to go to. They have been watching movies, playing video games. They complain they are bored and I'll put them to work. So far they haven't. I was going to get them to make cookies but frankly it's better to leave well enough alone and let them play with the youngest. LOL We don't go to a lot of places in the city, it's too busy and you can't move. We might go to the movies at some point though. For the most part, they just call friends to come over.

My nephew is addicted to Texas Hold 'em as well. He is always at his friend's playing. My BIL has bought him some poker chips for Christmas.

Sending mine to Nanna's to play this week so I can get stuff done! Makes life so much easier! She's in the "tell me 500 times to do it before I do it" stage and it's driving me batty!!!!!!!!!!! I wanted her to help me with the baking, but she won't settle down enough to listen to me and I'm afraid she'll get burned. I'm going to try and get her to wrap her gifts to family tonight. Maybe that will be a calming experience!

I'm always up for a good round of poker, but I haven't had enough practice with the Texas Hold 'em yet. SIL mentioned she got my brother an interactive Texas Hold 'em for Christmas and invited us over the holiday to play.

LOL I was talking with my neighbor lady this morning and she's already going nuts with her's being home. Those kids are so active. Their mom makes all these great plans to keep them busy for the day, the kids rush through everything so fast... and then they're back home wondering what they can do next. I really feel for their mom... they run her ragged. LOL

I hope you all who have your kids home with you this week (and next?) have a great time together...

This week I am still working so they are doing a lot of entertaining at home. My parents have been coming by and doing things with them (yesterday was a movie).

Just came home from work, dh and I said maybe we'll take them downtown for a bit.

Next week I am off work, so hopefully see some movies, go skating etc.

Well...since I'm on my vacation, too....we're all going to be SO excited to be off starting tomorrow afternoon (1/2 day of school for us). My boys don't really want to make big plans...they just LOVE to be home. I'm sure we'll see some movies...have friends over, etc. But right now we're just enjoying the thought of being home for a week. My dks get along very well...it's not a problem for them to be home and together for any period of time. Kind of like having your buddy living in the same house, I guess. Works well for us!

Our first day of break is tomorrow and I am actually looking forward to having them home. They usually don't complain much about being bored and I figure after the holidays they'll have plenty of new stuff to keep them busy. Dh is off, too, so that helps and one night next week we're going to a bball tourney and staying in a hotel. Gramma offered to have them a couple of nights too, so we'll see.
