    ? about summer bed times

For those of you that don't have to get your kids up and ready for camp/summer school/day care, do they still have a "bed time" over the summer? What time do you let them sleep in until?

I'm asking because I do let me kids (9 and 11) stay up until about 9:30 sometimes 10 during the summer. Ds is always up by 7:30 and dd much much after that. There are only 2 kids in the neighborhood right now for them to play with. Two moved and 2 are on vacation. These girls don't go to bed until after 2 am and don't wake up until right before noon! I now know why their mom has such a hard time getting them up for school during the school year! They do this on the weekends durning the school year as well.

What do you let your kids do?

We keep them pretty much to the same schedule year-round. Dh and I are in bed by 9:00 or 9:30 since we're up so early (4:30), and the kids are in bed by 7:30 or 8:00. During the school year they're up by 6:30 and they don't sleep later than 7:30 if I let them sleep in.
Today is a new day and a good day to start anew.

We are past the schedules. Ds is 16 and goes to bed when he wants, gets up when he wants. Last night it was about 11:30 when he went to bed, most nights it's about 10:00-10:30. He's usually up by 8:00 at the latest. Depends on when he has to pick squash. He also works part time at a peach shed grading peaches. Sometimes he's a work at 10:00, other days it's 1:00. I was afraid I'd have to get ugly about him wanting to cruise town late every night since school is out. He's only gone to town once after dark and was only gone about 30 minutes. Hopefully it will stay that way.

I can't imagine letting young ones stay up till 2:00. I hope ds never sleeps till noon. Oldest ds used to do that and it drove me crazy.

Dd has had camps or VBS for the past 2 weeks, both starting at 9am, so she was in bed at a reasonable hour.

For the rest of the summer, the activities she's signed up for aren't until late afternoon/early evening, so we will let her stay up longer. She has been up til as late as midnight on the weekends when we have friends and their kids over for movies and games. She's a night owl like me and will probably stay up til around 11ish during the week for the rest of the summer, and wakes up at 8:30am. She's never been one to sleep late regardless of the time she goes to bed.

During the school year my boys are in bed between 8:00-8:30 p.m. (I get them up at 6:00 a.m. for school. We leave a little before 7:00.) During the summer I relax the rules...but there is still a bedtime. I "say" 9:00 pm, but usually let them read in bed until 9:30 or so. Ds1 will sleep until 9:00 a.m., if I let him...ds2 is always up between7-7:30 am.

During the school year my kids go to bed at 8 and I hope they are asleep by 10! If nothing is going on the next day during summer they stay up as late as they want. I love the morning time when they are still snoozing!

Depends. If they are being too noisy or cranky I will chase them to bed earlier. But a lot of times they are in the pool for a late night swim, have friends over, watching a movie or at the fire pit so they are up pretty late. One night it might be 10 and another it might be 1. We never had a schedule growing up in the summer, just fell asleep watching tv so I'm pretty slack about it. A week or so before school I start them back on a reg. scheduel(why doesn't this word look right to me no matter how I spell it?). I would put a stop to it if they started to sleep half the day away, usually they are up before 9, 9:30 at the latest.

During the school year our 7 & 8 year old had 8:30 bedtime. Our 9 yr. old had 9, 13 yr. ol had 10 and the 15 yr. old had 10:30. During the summer we are pretty lax, but they still are shoved off to bed around 10. My oldest two think they should be able to stay up and watch tv as long as they want. I am totally against it. I love and live for my quiet nites after everyone has gone to bed and having complete solitude. I just don't enjoy them being up. I know they are taking after me and my grandma in being night owls. My grandma used to read till 3 in the morning and then sleep until 10. Maybe it's just something about this house.

The 13 yr. old is usually the first one up around 7:30 or 8. The oldest is usually the last one up around 9. Since I leave the house by 6 Am I really don't know what time they all get up.
Wouldn't it be nice if every time we messed up our life we could press CTRL ALT DEL and start all over??

No schedule for us either in the summer. Oldest ds always seems to be up around 7 no matter what time he goes to bed. Youngest ds will sleep in 'til 9 or so. They have basketball camp for the next 4 weeks with dh and have to get up at 7, so I am guessing they'll be tired earlier, but who knows. LOL!
