    OK..there's your marketing angle!!!!!!!
Linda's Discovery Center....not your average daycare or preschool!!!

Focus on your differences, celebrate them....you aren't just a daycare, you aren't just a preschool.....you have so much more to offer both sets up paretns!

I like that! The place that I interview yesterday was a montessuri (sp?) program and the class I would be in was their enrichment program. 2 1/2 -6 year olds. I don't know if that helps.

It sounds like you've gotten a lot of wonderful advice. That... along with your drive/determination... I'm sure, will give your competitor's in your area a run for their money. You've got to remember though, that no matter how good you are or how much you offer... you aren't always going to "win". In all the year's I've done day care, I've never quite figured out exactly what it is that some of these parents want/expect. I find that no matter how much you offer... sometimes it's just not going to be enough. LOL

There have been many times when I've been in competition with good friends of mine. (or some that aren't... ) Sometimes they'd choose them... and sometimes they'd choose me. We pretty much offered the same things... preschool, along with a large variety of different activities throughout the day. Some felt I had more to offer, some felt she did. Who knows... LOL

Some people simply base their decision on the building/location, as well as the personality/appearance of the provider. (how professional you are/act... dress/carry yourself) A parent also likes to feel that their child is loved and truly cared about while in your care. (that it's not all about $$) If you're everything a parent is looking for... I believe they won't mind spending the $$ to get it. The thing to remember is... no matter how good you are or how much you do/offer... you're not always going to get everyone you interview with. Every time I wasn’t the chosen one... I'd beat myself up about it and end up feeling like I had done something... that I wasn't good enough. According to those who did choose me... I was the best. Mind you, some of these people were people who had come from the centers/other provider’s that some of these other people had chosen over me. According to them, they’d never go back to those places again. ) The only thing you can do is... do the best you possibly can to make your business as successful as possible. If someone doesn't pick/choose you... than consider it their loss. LOL You know your good at what you do... give yourself the credit you deserve. You’ve come a long way... and you’ll continue to go a lot farther. Nothing but the best for you!

Thank you--that is so me. I do beat myself up when I am not chosen; keep wondering what I'm doing wrong. I know in my head I can't always win( I don't have room for them all anyway!!)

I talked to a gal today who had helped me and encouraged me to open my preschool. She said that there just isn't that many kids in this age range. I guess the public elementary school will only have 15 kindergarteners total for the two classes. Usually they have at least 15 kids per class. Actually I have 14 enrolled for preschool.

Ann & Vea Thanks for the suggestions. I'll see what I can come up with.
Wouldn't it be nice if every time we messed up our life we could press CTRL ALT DEL and start all over??

Wow! I want that class! We're up to 17 & 18 a piece (5 classes) and more enrolling daily. Actually one year I had 12 and didn't really like it. I always felt like I'd "lost" someone. Fifteen is a great number. Works out so nicely for group work too. Twenty is our limit without having to have a full time aide in the room. Rumors have been circulating for a while about dropping the maximum number to 15. One can dream.

Have a great year with your little ones.

I remember when I was in elementary school... (which was a looong time ago ) we always had at least 29 to 31 students in our class room. I couldn't imagine that now...
