Bird Flu pandemic

Here is a novelty-lets have a debate thread! LOL

How many of you are concerned with the possiblity of a pandemic? Do you think this is like the Y2K scare and nothing to worry about or are you taking this seriously?

My first reaction is not to freak out until it hits the US, but dh is already starting to collect 2 weeks worth of stored food if the government enacts their emergency plan.

I have no clue if the Canadian government has any plans regarding this (I am a bad news reader/watcher). So, that being said, I'm not scared right now and won't be until I need to be, lol.

The last I read in the newspaper on this, the Canadian auth. said they wouldn't feel as prepared if it wasn't for the Sars outbreak and they can learn from that. I honestly cannot remember a huge chunk of the articles, there was a 4 page spread on it. I'm so bad at remembering this. Some do feel that it's not going to get that bad but there are still those that are taking precautions and trying to have us prepared just in case. We have had some nasty outbreaks in the past that killed off thousands(millions worldwide) and really, not that long ago. I have to wonder if the specialists who are not worried, do they have their head in the sand? OR is it the other way and the ones who are saying it will hit as a huge pandemic are over reacting? Either way, better to be prepared but I haven't thought of stocking my pantry.
There is nothing I can do to stop this from hitting us or anyone else, just like I cannot control the weather. So, I'm not overly concerned and won't be until we start getting reports that it is here. That being said, I cannot tell you how fast I would have the kids into the doctor for an immunization if they become available.
