What time is dinner time at your house?

We usually eat around 7:00-7:30. We have eaten as late as 8:30, and on very very few occasions as early as 5:30. Dh gets off at 5:00 and so by the time he gets home, gets out of his uniform, and rests for a few minutes, it is 6:00. I usually start cooking about 6:00 or so.

I don't call our noon meal "dinner"...I call it "lunch". I call the supper meal both "supper" and "dinner".

Not totally a US/CAN difference because on weekends, we always called our noon meal dinner and our night meal is always supper. I have never called the night meal dinner unless it was if the person I was talking to called it dinner first. Now for some odd reason during the week, we call the noon meal lunch.

by the time i've worked maybe two jobs in one day or had scouts/errands, etc. I'm doing laundry, checking homework, straightening the house, etc. at night. I don't sit down to rest til I hit the pillow (or come here).

So true!!! Ha ha That cracked me up. Um...my kids (and I) eat lunch kind of early (11:00)...so by 5:00ish, we're hungry! I try to wait until dh gets home about 6:00...doesn't always happen though. I'd rather feed the boys early than have them snacking before supper.

I think it just depends on more of how you were raised ?? ..
we called noon: lunch and evening : supper. but I found in different parts of the country that it was done differently .. lunch/dinner or dinner/supper

I believe "supper" comes from the root word "sup"...
difinition of "sup" = swallow: a small amount of liquid food; "a sup of ale"
