    ? for teachers

Do your students take the TerraNova tests? If so, I have a question for you about the home report the school sends to the parents. It has the students name, below that the grade and then below that my ds's says "home schooled" and my dd's says "no accommodations". What does that mean? Dd has taken the TerraNova before and that section is blank. I didn't know if it had something to do with our move. The kids took the tests their second day of school here. I can't call the school until Tuesday to ask them and I'm wondering what it means... ds has never been home schooled.

Our children don't take the Terra Nova test, but don't say that too loud or I am sure that they will add it to the list. LOL!!! I am not sure about the homeschooled part, but I am pretty sure that the no accomodations means your dd took the test in a regular testing environment. She didn't get any extra breaks or time, stuff like that.

On that note, and not to take away from Jen's post, but does anyone else have children that are tested to death? The children here in 3rd grade have to take approximately 6-7 tests each year, and most of those are administerred 3-4 times a year.

    Thanks.

As far as "being tested to death". My dd has gone to school in 3 different states and now here. It's kind of funny to see the difference. In CA they start testing the kids at a much earlier grade (I know they tested the 1st graders, not sure about the Kindergartners) while in AK I think they started in 3rd grade. CA also does more testing than other states we have lived in, but no where near the amount of tests you are talking about. I know my kids got tired of it.

Our kids take the Terra Nova and the ISTEP. I'll have to dig out the Terra Nova and look at what ours say, but I won't have time until I get back tonight.

Could they have gotten the info switched for your kids? No accomodations just means exactly what someone else said - nothing about the test or testing conditions was modified to accomodate any special needs.

What about the home schooled part- neither of them have even been home schooled? So it couldn't be that they switched info on my kids.

Jen, isn't there a gap in their enrollment records between the date they left their school in CA and when they enrolled in the school in Germany? Maybe the school assumed they were being homeschooled during that time.

There was a 5 week gap, so when I saw it on ds's I thought that might be why. Then dd's didn't say that so I was really confused. Ds did excellent and dd did very well. I wish I could take credit for homeschooling ds, but he's just a smart kid. LOL

Yes and in my opinion we spend too much time "weighing the pigs" and need to spend more time "feeding the pigs" so to speak.
