    After high school school....

The talk about community colleges got me wondering

what did you do after high school graduation?
did you go to school? what type?
did you get a degree? what type?
    any other schooling?

(i know we have done this before, but I am old and addled and can't remember)

I went to a 4 year university (not really sure how that is different from a college). I got a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communications and Public Relations. They were exactly sure where to put the communications school..if i had graduated a couple of years earlier, it would have been a BA, and I have heard now it's part of the business school so it would be a BS. It is funny when employers would see the BFA, they would ask 'do you play the violin??"

I attended one semester towards my MBA, but was working full time too and it was just too hard. I have my real esate license and have to do continuing education every two years. (been doing that for years it seems).

I went to a 4 year college. I have a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. I started a Masters in Education...but then the kids came along and I let that plan go. I take college credits regularly, though. I have to take 6 credits every 5 years to renew my teaching license.

I got my real estate licence when I was 18 and my broker's licence a year after that. The year after high school I decided to go to a Community College to study real estate and stayed for a year. I came home and worked in a hotel for a year also doing bookkeeping for a restaurant. That's how I ended up in Alabama managing a restaurant. I took a semester of classes at a community college in Alabama, but working 70 hours a week and trying to get to class and study didn't work out.

Brichard has a BS in business. We plan on sending all our children to college and I hope they all go.

I graduated as valedictorian of my hs. Went straight to college where I stayed only 1 semester. Gave up my scholarship and went to live with my gp and worked for Wal-mart. Thus began my rebellious stage because I was tired of being the "good girl". Met my sos first husband and moved to S. Carolina. Got pregnant, got wise, went back to my parents, ds was born, divorced, and enrolled in college which I now had to pay for myself. Lived in my parents guest house for 3 1/2 years. Got a BS in early childhood educ. Was hired by a local school to teach kdg. Met dh and married during my first year teaching. I've taught for 21 years. Always said I'd go back and get my masters when the kids were grown, but then the grandkids came along, and now I'm not so sure I could even handle going back. My mind doesn't work like it used to.

After HS I went to 2 local community colleges (at the same time). I got a certificate in Child Development (I don't remember how many credits I needed, but I have 37 in Child Development). Got married, moved away, had kids and the rest is history. There are times I think I need to go back to school to get my degree, but I haven't decided what I want to be when I grow up!

Graduated hs as a Junior. Through a combination of grants, loans, and scholarships I attended Loyola University in New Orleans for a total of 3/4 of a semester. I chose that school because my sister lived in New Orleans, but she got pregnant with my niece right before I was supposed to move there. She moved back to Oklahoma to live with my parents, I went to New Orleans on my own. I was back home and married within 2 years. My dh at the time got a job near Oklahoma State around the time I turned 30, so I went back for my BS. Ten years, one more child, a move to Texas and a divorce later, I have the BS and an MS.

Graduated high school and used a few scholarships to pay for community college in a neighboring town. Graduated there in 1 1/2 years. Married dh, went to Germany for 3.5 years and then when I got home I began a university . I went to the university for 2 years and got a BS in elementary ed. I just went and took the test not too long ago for ESE certification, and I now have a teacher's certificate in elementary ed, ESE, and I have my ESOL endorsement. I plan to take the test on Integrated Middle Grades and get certified in that, but I haven't gotten around to that yet. I also planned to start National Board Certification this year, but with me being pregnant and moving to a new school, I have decided to wait. Maybe I can do that next year. After dh finishes his degree, I MAY go back and get my masters, but we will have to see about that.

I didn't go. I really didn't know what I wanted to be growing up. lol Plus I had already met dh and was on the path I always knew I would take. Get married, have kids. We got married not long after I was 20. Plan a wedding or go to college, I took the wedding. lol I don't regret it but I do regret not going to college, even if it was community for something if that makes sense. I can see me in real estate in a few years. I have always loved house hunting, looking up what houses are worth, and I really think I could find great houses for people. I'm often looking up what's for sale here or 'there' just for fun. When we were looking to buy out here I was even shocked at how much knowlege I gained about housing, markets, areas. Of course, over the years, I have changed my mind more times than I can count. lol It's hard to think of going back to school for anything because I am so afraid that I will choose one thing and then find I wasted my money because I would rather do something else. I envy those who always 'knew' what they wanted to be and went for it. I can't make up my mind on what to have for dinner, never mind a career path!

Ann, if you don't mind my asking, I am curious. Since you have your real estate license, why not do that instead of Starbucks? Is there a way you could do that but not full time? I know housing real estate can be done part time, don't know about commercial? If you were linked to a real estate company, couldn't you get insurance through them too?
