    body changes in young girls

ok dd will be nine next Sunday, this afternoon she had her best friend over and they had a great time. Her friend is the same age, and just a bit of a thing, skinny and cute as a button, dd on the other hand is "normal" for her age.

DD asked me after her friend left when she will get her breasts, I explained to her that each girl is different, her cousin who is the same age aready wears a training bra and dd wants one when she starts school this September...ok so we are talking and started reading me chapters in the American Girl my body book....then I asked her if she was wanting breasts, she said, Yes Mommy, but not as big as yours....I nearly died laughing.....

She was also disapointed to find out that her period isn't a one time thing, its a monthly thing....OH...I thought you got it once and that was it....

Anyone else dealing with a dd who is very interested in BODY changes?

I feel like we are talking and having interesting conversations....just wondering if I am alone, most of my girl friends have boys...

I remember having those conversations with my dd's. It really doesn't seem that long ago either... but it has been. LOL It's nice that your dd feels comfortable enough to come and talk with you about these things. Back in my day my mom NEVER talked with us about anything. (nobody's mom did... ) We learned everything we knew from school... LOL

We're talking but it's more out of her being comfortable and knowing what to expect down the road.
I bought dd a bra last week only b/c one of her golf shirts has a lot of spandex in it and it just didn't look "right". She doesn't have breast buds but you could tell something was going on under her shirt. lol She's only allowed to wear it under that shirt as she doesn't need it under anything else.

I remember how I just couldn't wait until I got my period and was so excited when it finally happened. Ugh... That got old real fast! Too bad it wasn't a one time thing... LOL

My dd turns 10 this month, and she has been asking the same type questions. She is extremely petite, and is no where close to developing as of yet. A lot of her friends are already devleoping, and dd has shown some concern about why she hasn't started developing yet.

Her one concern about going to camp last week was having to change in front of the other girls. Lots of them wears bras, and she said she'd feel weird being totally exposed, while the other girls weren't. I remember feeling the exact same way at her age. So I bought her some "bralettes". LOL She was sooooo happy when I brought them home, and thanked me again over and over when she got back from camp. She wasn't concerned at all about changing since she had them.

Buy sports bras! I have been prepared for dd to start her period since 5th grade. She started showing signs then, but nothing yet. I have feeling though it might be close. Her breasts are really developing. Had to buy a bra with cups! Yikes, that really changes their look! She got some pubic hair a while ago, but now is showing a little under her arms.

    I love that name!!
What I bought dd was basically a stretchy cotton 'tube' with adjustable straps.

Ann, what grade is your dd going into? 6th, 7th??

Dd#1 just got her breast buds in the last 2 weeks, she turned 8 in May. I thought it would take longer since she is so thin. She said her nipples hurt when we were at the amusement park and sure enough her little "bumps" were there. She has complained that they sore when things rub against them so she has started wearing her "bralette." I told her we'd go shopping for some more and she said, well, "not right now ok mom?" I can almost see her body shape changing before my eyes!!

We had the period talk which I thought would completely freak her out, but it didn't.

I remember being so excited too, I was thrilled. Then when the third one came I hemoraged for a few months so I hated it and wanted it to go away and never come back.
I remember the talks with my mom around 11 and 12. The big ones came when I was 13 and around the time I got my period. I wanted a bra sooo bad when I was 9 and 10. Now, I love to wear dh's t'shirts and sweat shirts around the house without one . I am lucky enough to get away with it, not much there. I remember my mom having a book with diagrams of the reproduction system and I loved it because I was able to understand what she was talking about instead of just talking about words I never heard of before. I have had talks with ds1 since he was 10, same as ds2. Wish I could have held off a bit but they were learning so much at school I had to make sure they knew/understood the truth.

My dd is the same age as Ann's but she's no where near as developed. She has breast buds and that's about it. She wears a bra though and looks funny when she doesn't have one on. She's tall and very thin. We've talked a few times and she has the American Girl book Ann mentioned. She shaves her legs because she has really dark hair and it embarrassed her.

I'm in total denial! We went through all of this with dd1, but I'm starting to notice some of these same things with dd2 already (almost 10)! It should be easier this time around (for ME) right????
Today is a new day and a good day to start anew.
