Alternative to soup mix ideas?

I love onion soup mix in recipes but dh can't eat it at all. I love the pork roast with that and apple sauce, guess I could still do just the apple sauce but it's not the same. Any alternatives to onion soup mix that I could use for recipes? I saw Amy's roast recipe, I grew up on having the onion soup mix over roasts and miss that too. What else could I mix with the apple sauce? Ideas please!!

what is it about the mix that he can't eat? onions? something else?

I never use the onion soup mix in my crockpot with my roasts... (dh says it tastes too onionie) so I just cut/add my own onions. It's not as strong tasting as the onion mix.

Not sure what it is about it, must be something in the powder because he eats onions fine. When he eats onion soup mix or savory he gets heart burn so bad you would think he was having a heart attack. And taking anything for it even before hand won't work. Everyone in the family knows that when we all get together for meals, potlucks, no savory. I know I could use onions, done that. I love onion soup mix on roasted potatoes too. I wonder if there is some other kind of mix I could use for the pork roast/apple sauce....

beef boullion, salt, pepper and real onions maybe?

wonder if it's MSG?

does onion powder do the same thing? maybe that with some garlic powder, black pepper, beef broth and a little salt.

Thanks, will try that. I didn't pick up a pork roast this weekend because I wasn't sure what to put on it. That's the only way I've made it. I know my parents have done it many times with gravy but I love the apple sauce. lol
