it always depended on who asked. in college (or high school) if it was a girl's dance and I asked, I paid. If the guy asked me out...he paid.
DH paid until we started getting serious (unless I was treating) and then it just depended.
For ds and his group, it's pretty much the way I did it in high school. But they do group dating so much that everyone pays their own way. The boys that actually have girlfriends pretty much pay most of the time (unless it's a girl's dance)

I agree with Donna. I never felt comfortable having someone always paying for me. I think I even supported at least 2 boyfriends in my past.

I was talking about recently as an adult, but I think it applies for the kids now, too. Why should the guy pay all the time? I think that goes with the mind set that women should be dependant on men, and that shouldn't be a given.

spoken like a mother of boys! LOL

i don't see it as a dependance thing, more of who asked whoml. sure don't see the girls in my son's group thinking they are dependant on a man at all!!!

I am actually going to get slammed more financially when dd hits high school than with ds. The boys only pay for prom (and that's their senior year) and homecoming. The girls pay for the other dances and there about 2 per year. Boys can wear the same tux or shirt. Girls have to have a new dress every time so I definitely don't see the boy having to pay all the time!

But, getting back to ds' point, you have to admit a guy spends more when he is dating than when he is not.

True, true. Although my middle ds is the only one who's proving to be inexpensive in the clothing department. I spent $200 "helping" ds1 get new clothes for the homecoming dance. Thank goodness he was in his football uniform when they presented the King and Queen candidates!

I am ready for a nap!!! The 2nd graders were crazy last night! They woke me up at 11:30 to tell me they were scared to fall asleep (they had been telling each other exaggerated stories). I sat in there with them and got them to start naming off their favorite foods (cotton candy, ice cream etc and find out later that that topic turned out to be a mistake). I go back to bed. Dd wakes up at 12:20, I get her back to sleep and doze off. 1:15 the hall light goes on and I find the 3 boys chatting away in the kitchen with the fridge wide open and every light possible on saying they're starving. I say, "No, you're not, you're tired." Get them back upstairs and I am under the assumption that my tone convinced them that they were tired and NOT hungry, but apparently not....I barely dozed off and woke up to them playing BASKETBALL in ds's room at 1:45!!! Needless to say, it was a long night. I think I'd rather have a newborn baby than 3 2nd graders. LOL One boy left to be picked up and I am hoping to hold off dd's nap until then.
