    Middle Eastern and Greek finger foods/appetizer recipes?

    Dd's are doing reports/presentations on Egypt and Greece, along with some finger foods for people to try out. I'm squeemish about trying new foods of any kind, so we're looking for, um, basic foods... no fried squid tongue or anything, lol. Any suggestions? People will be going from table to table, looking at the displays and trying out the foods.

    Mmmm... the appetizers I had for my "greek" party were spanikopita (a filo/ spinich pie that I bought at Sam's Club) hummus and pita chips (also Sam's Club, but it is very easy to make hummus.) You can do Olives (yuck) and feta cheese, stuffed grape leaves (dolma), maybe a gyro type pizza would be finger-foody, saganaki (fried cheese.)

    I think I will do the spanikopita (in bite-sized pieces) for dd1 (she's reporting on Greece). I found hummus as an ancient Egyptian recipe, too, saying that the Greeks borrowed it from them, so dd2 can make hummus!

    I also found a recipe for sweet mini-cakes that Greek warriors used to eat while traveling.

    I want to try the stuffed grape leaves, whether we do it for the presentation or not. Do you have a recipe, or did you buy it ready made? I realized we have no Mediterranean markets here or in Tucson (that I can find info online), so I don't know if I could find the grape leaves or not.

    It's 9:42, past my bedtime, and I can't find where I swore I asked for the recipe for baklava! If I'm senile and didn't ask before... can you please post the recipe for baklava? It sounds like it would be better than the sweet cakes.

    I haven't made it in years, but the key is to keep your phyllo moist!

    I have no idea what to do now! At least we have a bunch of great ideas. There will be five "countries" there, so I'm wondering if making two things will be too much. We're meeting today, so I'll ask the other moms. (I still wanna try the baklava though!!!!)

    Maybe you could see what recipes everyone has gotten and then try to come up with a meal. Each course could be from a different country.

    I like that idea. Time and space is an issue, unfortunately, so I don't know if we'll have time for a sit-down dinner. Maybe if we cut out the oral reports!!!!!!!! I love that idea, lol! I definitely bring it up today. It's not happening until May, so that's a good thing.

    You could still do it in courses along with the reports.
    Hi, my name is Ann, in Ancient Egypt that would start their meals with hummus. Hummus is a dip made with chickpeas and tahinni. Egyptians also....

    I am Suzy and my report is on greece..in greece for salad we use feta so while you are having a salad, let me tell you about greeece....
