The Young Leaders Conference sounds like something dd was invited to do. It's in D.C. and you're expected to LEAVE your child there for a week with total strangers ....

Sorry, that's as far as I got. Well that and the $1800 it would have cost to send her.

It may not be the same, I tried to see if I'd posted here asking ya'll about it, but can't find a thread on it, and I'm sure I threw out the paperwork.

So... why the question? Someone been nomiated to attend something special???!!

we received a letter saying that ds had been nominated/selected, explaining what it was ect and that he was going to be receiving and invitation. well his invitation came in an envelope that looks like a wedding invitation! LOL
he has been 'invited' to things that sounded like this in the past but it was more of a tourist type thing couched like an honor. research is showing this is sponsored by the congress.

LOL love that 'leave' your child...i am not quite worried about that since ds is 17!

Maybe I wouldn't have been either, but since she's only 11.... I WAS! lol And yes, I remember the package was quite impressive.
So, you think he's going to go?

My dd was nominated for this too. The National Young Scholars Program. After talking to different parents who sent their kids in the past, we decided to send her. They all said their kids had an incredible time, and made huge strides in their leadership skills. They all sent their kids back the next year too.

They offer the program all over the U.S. Luckily dd's is being held just 20 mins away, so I don't have a problem sending her there for the week. She is sooo excited about going and can't wait to meet new friends.

I couldn't believe she wanted to go since she wouldn't know a single person there. I would have never done that when I was her age!

Congrats to your ds Ann and your dd Beth... I hope they have fun!!!

Congrats to your dd too Jen, I don't think I would send ds off with total strangers at the age of 11 either.
