i misunderstood a little, the needle was in a little ziplock bag. i am not sure if it makes a difference in my mind unless there was some kind of tab that you pulled off to be able to unzip it (kind of like the frozen veggies) but it might be the fine line that makes it "ok"
Still scary to me, is there an age limit to have your bell button pieced say at a "shop" ok and OUCH!

Glad she didn't go through with it....and she told you.

Going to be a beautiful day except for the wind, its expected to hit 83. I love being back in California.

Ann WOW about dd and the belly piercing kit...I didn't even know they sold a home kit, ewww anyone else thinking this doesn't sound like a good idea? OK NOT only the needle aspect being dangerous, but OUCH!
Oh Renee... could you PLEASE send some of that beautiful weather my way? It's soooo cold here.

I agree about the belly piercing kit... I couldn't even imagine trying to pierce my own belly... I'm SUCH a wimp when it comes to things like that. I can't believe that anyone would be ALLOWED to sell anything like that... especialy with the open needle thing.

she confesses she bought the stuff to HOME PIERCE her belly button at the mall, but she remembered that i had said i would kill her and she got scared. (i am not sure that was the true order of how things happened )
i start asking about where she bought the stuff. she said it was at a kiosk in the mall. i asked if the needle was in a tube or something. she said 'no, he just put it in my bag'. WHAT???? it was loose?? the guy just pulls a needle from 'somewhere' and puts it in the bag with the belly button ring. i flip!!! tell her she had no idea where the needles had been, what she could have exposed herself too ect. she realizes that i am almost more of upset over the needle than the fact that she almost pierced her belly button and says 'you are scaring me' i tell her good and reiterate again what diseases she could have gotten. i also tell her i am going to talk to mall management.
i do get tickled a little later cause she has now gone into the 'wow, i can't believe i told you, most kids wouldn't would they?' mode. i tell her that's probably true but i am not surprised that she did. she gets a look on her face and then laughs and says 'cause you know i would want to brag that i made a good choice' LOL
told dh this morning, and he wants me to take the needle to mall management, but since dd took it out of the bag, who's to believe that it was just loose. we decided that i would take dd and let her buy the stuff again and see what he does.
forget that this guy is selling to minors but loose needles????

dd and i went to the mall office on tuesday, the lady that i needed to talk to wasn't in, but the man we spoke with just shook his head in disbelief. the woman called me back yesterday. she sounded very shocked and upset. said the owner would be sending a letter and if necessary, they would kick them out of the mall.
i was pleased. this mall is privately owned so i feel like they will be fairly responsible; i didn't get the feeling that she was just placating me, but i will probably check by the kiosk in a week or so to see if he is still selling the needles.

Good for you Ann, I think that they should know what kind of things are going on in their Mall.

I'm glad you followed through! Did any of your dd's friends do this as well?

Good for you! I'm wondering how many other kids bought those kits and actually used them. Makes you sick to think that someone would sell them to such young kids who honestly don't (maybe) know better. Glad your dd was honest and told/showed it to you before using it.

well, fortunately she and her friend chickened out. (idiots!!!!)
the girl who took her there does have her bb peirced but i am not sure if she did it herself or what.
i asked dd if she had told anyone or would she not want her friends to know. she said she had told a few people but made it sound more dramatic 'my mom was SO mad, she drug me down to the mall and made a huge fuss!' LOL
it helps to make me seem even crazier cause i have told her to always blame me for things that her friends want to do but she doesn't want to do.

Don't belly button piercings have to be done by someone with some sort of license? I think you have to go to a tatoo place to get that done? I know she was thinking of doing it at home, just curious what the laws are. Do you have to be a certain age? I guess it could be different state to state? hmmm, interesting.

It is licensed by the state (the tattoo and piercing division). you have to be 18, with an adult or a signed notorized affadavit. you have to be over 18 to by the piercing kit (which comes with sterilized needles in a hermetically sealed container) to buy it over the internet (how you prove that i don't know though).
the fact that this guy was just selling loose needles in a ziplock bag to minors did not help him.
also learned don't go to a place that uses a gun cause that can increase the risk of infection (in case you were interested )

Thanks for the info, even though I don't anticipate ever needing it.

Honestly, if I had the body for it, I'd probably have a pierced button. Thanks for the good information! That guy was majorly wrong and is lucky he is not in a lot more trouble!

All 3 of my dd's had their belly button's pierced, but they went to a certified tatto place/person to get them done... and I was there and had to sign for them. They had no problems (with infections) with their's, but Dawn took her's out and let it close up. Kristi (you should see her's being pregnant now... and Shelly still have/love their's.

Oh Diane, you should go to Claire's and get one of those Hoop earrings that are for non-pierced ears and put one in your navel. Then show your girls, they would crack up thinking you had yours done!!!

I'll tell yah, that wouldn't be a pretty site. but it would definitely crack them up. They know me good enough to know that thats not something I'd ever do. (I've told them that more than once... )
