Worried children advocates for daycare centers

I was a sub recently at a center that made me sick to my stomahe at times. I saw infants crawling around on a floor that had not been mopped all week long. They had put a little girl in "time out" in a room alone and threatend to close the door if she didn't stop crying, she is 3! There were some other things that I'm not going to get into right now. But my question here is...do any of you know of "daycare inspectors". I was thinking about contacting my local paper and asking if I could do a piece on the centers in our area, and pop in on them and then write a summary on there center. Like a health food inspector...but for centers. Does anyone have any suggestion?

I'd contact your state licensing agency and file a report. Did a quick search and found this:

    Indiana
Contact the following agency for details on child care licensing regulations in the state of Indiana:

    Family and Social Services Administration
    Division of Family and Children
    402 W. Washington St. Room W386
    Indianapolis, IN 46204

    Phone: (317) 232-4740

    Website: http://www.state.in.us

    Additional Info:
The Bureau of Child Development also maintains a great website for child care licensing information in Indiana at:
    www.carefinderindiana.org/

The National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care also maintains documents related to child care licensing in Indiana at: http://nrc.uchsc.edu/indiana/indiana.htm

I agree with contacting your state or county inspector. You should be able to file a report anonymously.
