Random acts of kindness

Has anyone ever done one? Ever wanted to do?

I once paid for the next person when I went to MOPS one day. I wish I did things like this more often.

I was once in line in a store behind a couple of boys (10-11 ish). They were buying something...seemed very excited about it. When it was rung up at the register, I could see them searching their pockets...looking frantically at each other. The clerk was rolling her eyes, etc. I heard one of them say, "I have to get the 57 cents from my mom. Can you wait?" I reached in my pocket and handed the boys the change. I think they were shocked!! It felt so good to do!!!

Today I helped make a girl very happy... it wasn't a "random act of kindness"...but it made me feel good! A student in one of my classes had her house robbed/vandalized over Christmas vacation. She and her mom were out of town..and not harmed. However, all of her Christmas and Birthday (middle of Dec.) gifts were taken. She's so disappointed...not sleeping well...etc. I was talking with her while we waited for her mom to pick her up after school on Wed., and she mentioned that she had really wanted to have the Operation game. She said that the "bad guys" took it before she could play with it. Broke my heart. So that night I went out to Target, and bought her the Operation game. When I got home, I called all of the other families in our class, and asked if they could donate a new/gently used toy to give A---- a new Christmas memory. Today, A---- was delighted with her 3 big bags of toys...and she LOVED her Operation game. The look on her face was priceless...her classmates were so happy to help her...and my heart was bursting with love for all of these kids.

Once when I went to get gas there was a young girl in the station who was on the phone asking/begging her mom to drive there and bring her $5.00. Evidently when she filled up her tank she thought she had more $$ than she did... and didn't have enough to pay her bill. I reached in my pocket to see if I had any cash and pulled out a $5.00 bill. I went up the cashier and gave him the $5.00 towards her bill. As I walked away I heard him tell her that someone had paid for it and that her mom wouldn't need to come. All she kept saying was... Are you kidding??? Are you kidding??? Who would do that? Then she started yelling Thanks to whoever did this for me. It was only $5.00... but it made me feel like a million bucks. LOL

What a sweetheart you are... that was SO nice of you to care enough to give her a new Christmas memory. I'm sure it also made the other kids/families feel good knowing that they also made a difference.

Funny but my colleagues and I had a chance to do good just this week. I mentioned that I was getting a new student and another teacher was getting the other twin. Well during the course of talking with the single mom we found out that she had just moved from another state and had no job and 4 cans of soup to last a week before she could get food stamps. Our counselor arranged for them to have pizza delivered that evening. Needless to say we all pitched in and filled a large box with food and gave it to the woman the next day.

The little girl is a sweety, but bless her heart this is her 3rd school this year and she is so far behind. I don't think she'll be with me long, but I can only love her and take her as far as I can while I have her.

I have done stuff - just blanking out at the moment. This is really something I want to do more often though.

Let's all follow kat's lead this week!! Everyone do some small act of kindness and report in on what it is. It doesn't have to be big, just open a door for someone...anything. This will be fun!!

Now you have me thinking. I am always doing nice things for other people. I have several that I try to be an "angel" to. This past week, I made rolls and took to several families, made a baby blanket and baby socks, and called several to see how they are.

But do I do things for people that I don't really know?????


While we were on vacation, we gave our left-over pizza to a homeless man on the street. But that is all that I can think of at this moment.


So, I am in....

Thinking again. Those things were not random acts, so yes I need to do better!!!

I sent flowers anonymously to a SIL having a terrible week -- and even the florist would not tell her who sent them; made brownies for a nephew recovering from being down with strep throat for a week. Bought bookmarks for my son's whole class from the book fair and had them sent to the teacher; Bought books from the bookfair for son's teacher and had them sent to her (again without telling my name). I never think to just do something as kind of you all have done for strangers. Sounds very heartwarming to do something like that.
