    Surprised Hair loss!!!

I've been losing hair like crazy for the past few months. Way beyond normal amounts. The doc did blood work and everything came back normal so he's sending me off to a dermatologist at the end of the month.

What's really freaking me out is that I'm beginning to think the entire family is losing hair!!! Especially dh and ds, but dd's as well.

Does anyone have any idea what can be causing all of us to lose our hair? I'm going to mention it to the dermatologist of course, but was hoping to get ideas from you all.
Today is a new day and a good day to start anew.

LOL..... I'm glad I'm not the only one who's lossing hair. Mine is coming out by the handfuls. Actually alot of people I talk to say the same thing, so I've actually stated to worry less.

I have no suggestions, sorry. Good luck.

Let me know what the dermatologist says, please?

I usually molt twice a year, but if your whole family is, that is sort of odd. I think there is a fungal infection that cause cause hair loss. Good luck.
Did you ever get your air ducts cleaned out and your house checked for mold? I am just wondering cause of all the health problems ya'll have been having there.

I've noticed a lot of people I know (especially women) have thinning hair. Probably just noticed it because it's happening to me now. I'll keep you posted on what the doc says, vea.

Ann, we never did anything about getting the house checked because we've all been feeling 100% better for the past two or three months or so. Ds2 had a bit of a cold but it didn't last long. Maybe I need to look into that again. I looked on the internet about the fungal infection but it says that while it's the most common cause of hair loss in children there's usually a red, scaly spot where the hair is gone and the kids don't have that. It would sure be any easy fix though. I'll put itt on the list of things to talk to the doctor about.

I always feel like I'm losing alot of hair, too. But my doctor said that it's normal to lose hair each day...and that my amount didn't seem abnormal. My bathroom counter is white...and I think I'm just super sensitive about it since I'm constantly cleaning hair off of it! LOL I try not to overbrush and overshampoo, since that seems to "stress" my hair.

    How's this for a scenerio...

    yours...hormonal - after having baby?
    ds - losing baby hair?
    dh - age?
dd's - stumped there...maybe you are just noticing theirs more because of yours?

I know when ds was 6 months old, I started losing hair by the handfuls! Dr. said not to worry, and that it was quite normal. It stopped after approx 6 weeks and then filled back in.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

I'm kinda trying to back off shampooing and brushing so much too Mary. This is different than any other hair loss I've experienced before because it comes out in bunches, not just a few here and there. It may still be normal though.

Darlene, ds1 is the one who I've noticed it most in (of the kids that is) and he's eight. He's always had very thick hair like his dad and the girls. Ds2 isn't quite as bald as a butter bean any more but I don't think he's losing. I'm still not 100% sure the girls are thinning, but it seems like it. Like you said I may just be more sensitive. Hopefully if it's just hormonal from the pregnancy it'll stop falling out soon!!!! The thought of being bald doesn't appeal to me much.
