Here in the Philippines, the Commission on Higher Education will be implementing a 5-year degree program for teachers next year. I am thankful that I was not included. I believe, that it is not in increasing the number of years that the quality of education will improve, it depends on the school and the competency of the teachers. Why do schools apply for accreditation in the first place? Student factor is also at play when it comes to quality of education, if students will not take their studies seriously, they won't benifit from it.
Adding another year will also be a financial burden most especially to the parents. In my country's case, I believe that this 5-year program is just the government's way of decreasing the number of unemployment.
